A row of men stand on the ground in front of the tree, while haphazard rows are formed above by men standing on the side of the trunk. Three men at right hold rifles, while three other men hold long sticks. A man on the top row towards the left of center holds a large pine cone in his right hand. The men are all visible wearing hats, while most wear a combination of suspenders, long pants, vests, and jackets. Pine trees are visible in the background at right, while the trunk of a tree is visible at left.
