Bacteria isolated in contaminated environments by aromatic pollutants, such as chlorophenols or polychlorinated biphenyls, are equipped with aromatic ring-hydroxylating enzymes (ARHDs) enabling them to transform these toxic compounds. In our research, we aimed to revisit a hypothesis concerning aromatic secondary plant metabolites (SPMs) as the initial substrates for ARHDs. Specifically, we explored the potential of ARHDs to transform SPMs and to estimate their effect on ARHDs gene transcription in Rhodococcus opacus C1.
