Issue No. 23 from the series “scriptum – Working Results from the Geological Service North Rhine-Westphalia” addresses the question of the potentials and risks of the extraction of natural gas from unconventional deposits. It includes an evaluation of numerous expert opinions on this topic, a critical examination of regional geological findings in North Rhine-Westphalia and the current international literature. The importance of unconventional natural gas deposits in NRW is discussed with regard to the issue of security of supply.
