Microaerophilic Fe(II)-oxidizing bacteria were cultured in paddy soils using a gel-stabilised gradient system to investigate their ability to oxidise Fe(II), sequester carbon and fix pollutants. The composition and metabolic potential of the microorganisms were analysed using macrogenome sequencing.
