Global Distribution of Total Inorganic Carbon and Total Alkalinity Below the Deepest Winter Mixed Layer Depths, CDIAC/NDP-076

The NDP-076 data package consists of monthly gridded (1 degree
horizontal by 32 vertical layers) estimates of key ocean carbon
dioxide (CO2) values adjusted and interpolated from measurements taked
under the World Ocean Circulation Experiment (WOCE), Joint Global
Ocean Flux Study (JGOFS), and the Ocean-Atmosphere Carbon Exchange
Study (OACES). The estimates of total inorganic carbon and total
alkalinity are provided only for deep ocean waters, where the absence
of large spatial and temporal variability permits the interpolation of
the estimates. The estimates of current (mid-1990's) values of ocean
carbon parameters are useful for initializing models of global carbon
cycling, which seek to quantify the role of the oceans in taking up
the carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
