To address the possibility for single phage isolates to evolve both high growth rate and broadly infectivity, we worked with the lytic phage Pseudomonas phage phi-2, which infects the bacterium Pseudomonas fluorescens SBW25. Three types of training strategies were adopted here: evolution on susceptible bacteria, coevolution with bacteria, and rotation between evolution- and coevolution-phases.
