Digitaal Vrouwenlexicon van Nederland The Digitaal Vrouwenlexicon van Nederland (DVN, Online Dictionary of Dutch Women) is an online reference work launched on September 1, 2003 by the Huygens Institute for the History of the Netherlands under the leadership of historian Els Kloek. It offers structured biographical sketches of notable Dutch women (including the overseas territories of the Netherlands) who have passed away, selected on the basis of their achievements and reputation, and spans roughly fifteen centuries of history. Although the formal DVN project concluded in 2023, the lexicon remains freely accessible online as a resource for scholars, educators and anyone interested in Dutch women’s history. About this dataset This is a machine-readable dataset that does not replicate the text in the DVN entries, but it does provide CC0 data which links the biographical entries (their identifier and hyperlink) to their corresponding items in Wikidata. The Wikidata community has fully mapped each DVN record on Wikidata and has added biographical metadata over many years. This dataset makes it easy to enrich DVN entries with Wikimedia’s structured data, to support digital-humanities research or public-facing apps. Each row/record contains: DVN (Digitaal Vrouwenlexicon van Nederland) identifier and URL Wikidata Q-item and URL Person’s name, birth and death dates and places (when available) as recorded on Wikidata Basic occupations or roles as recorded on Wikidata Links to Wikipedia articles in English and Dutch, and links to free media on Wikimedia Commons, if available VIAF and Biografisch Portaal identifiers, if available on Wikidata Multiple rows on each person will be included if Wikidata contains multiple values for the properties that were queried (e.g. 3 rows if the person has three occupations recorded on Wikidata). The author attached to this record has worked on this data as a volunteer over many years, but as a whole, the dataset must be credited to work done by the international (mostly volunteer) Wikidata community at large, which couldn't be properly represented in Zenodo metadata.
