Production volume of mulberry silk India FY 2008-2023

Mulberry silk contributed to the bulk of the silk production in India, with over 27 thousand metric tons produced in financial year 2023. Mulberry plants, specifically the leaves are a primary source of food for the silkworm Bombyx mori. This variety of silk was largely harvested from six major states across the south Asian country.
