Pacific whiteleg shrimp (Penaeus vannamei) were injected with either White Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV)-infected or specific pathogen free (SPF)- shrimp homogenate. Gill tissue was sampled from four shrimp in each treatment group at 0, 3, 6, 9, 12, 24 and 36 hours post injection (hpi). Transcriptomic responses were analysed using RNA-seq and microRNA-seq on an Illumina HiSeq 2500. The aim was to identify mechanisms of White Spot Disease pathogenesis during the early stages of infection.
