Permafrost Bank Erosion Model, 2021-2025

This model can be used to simulate river bank erosion for one river bank at sub daily timesteps. the main software is contained in the "perermafrostbankerosionmodel.py" script. We provide the python scripts named boundaryconditiontools.py" and "watertemperaturemodel.py" that can be used to drive the model with transient environmental conditions. However, the bank erosion model can be run with other boundary conditions files, or a default file that we also provide ("example_boundary_conditions.csv"). We provide a file "run.py" with which the model can be run for one scenario. To ensure that your python environment contains software dependencies, we provide the "environment.yml" file.
We developed this model for the publication: River ice controls permafrost bank erosion across an Arctic delta, in production at Earth Surface Processes and Landforms, available from: doi: 10.1002/esp.70189. In this research, we compared erosion rates in different delta distributary channels in a variety of hydrologic and river ice condition scenarios.
