Operando Multi-Bragg Coherent Diffraction Imaging of Oligocrystal Nanocatalysts during CO Oxidation

Dislocations are key defects that strongly impact the catalytic performance of nanoparticles, yet their role under operating conditions remains unclear. We propose to study a single platinum oligocrystal containing well-identified dislocations, prepared by Mass Particle Compression and characterized ex situ. Using the gas panel at ID01 and an incident energy of 13 keV, we will perform in situ and operando multi-Bragg coherent diffraction imaging (m-BCDI) during CO oxidation. This approach will enable the retrieval of three-dimensional displacement, strain, and rotation fields under reaction conditions, thereby revealing how dislocations influence stress relaxation and strain dynamics at the nanoscale. By focusing on one dislocated nanoparticle, we aim to establish a model system that directly links lattice defect evolution to catalytic activity.
