Micro Rain Radar and Radiometric Measurements to Unravel Contrasting Features of Rain Microstructure below and above the Boundary Layer

· Mean drop diameter and parameters of the gamma model show opposite variation with rain rates below and above the boundary layer.· Enhanced drop breakup due to instabilities and wind shear above the boundary layer during intense convection causes such anomalies.· It is critical that radar quantitative precipitation estimation algorithm accounts for the type of rain namely Convective and Stratiform.
