Factors influencing wildlife roadkill in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Northern, Tanzania
收藏资源简介:
This project investigates the key factors contributing to wildlife roadkill incidents within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA), a globally recognized UNESCO World Heritage Site in Northern Tanzania. With increasing vehicular traffic due to tourism and local activities taking place from Karatu to Serengeti, roadkill has become a growing conservation concern, threatening biodiversity and ecosystem stability. The study aims to identify spatial and temporal patterns of roadkill, species most affected, and the influence of environmental, road-related, and different human factors. Data was collected through systematic road surveys, GPS mapping, and interviews with local stakeholders and authorities. Findings from the project provides evidence-based recommendations to inform mitigation strategies, such as improved road planning, speed control measures, and awareness campaigns, to reduce wildlife mortality while balancing conservation and development goals. This project contributes to broader efforts in sustainable wildlife management and habitat connectivity in protected areas experiencing development pressures.
