This Excel database contains the data collected from articles for writing a review-style article, focusing on a meta-analysis on the theme: Effect of water-saving technologies on nitrogen losses in rice fields: a meta-analysis. It includes 13 sheets, from the initial selection to the data extraction.

The articles were searched in Scopus™ and Web of Science™ databases without restrictions on the years of publication or geographic location. Meta-analysis articles were excluded from the search results. Specific keywords were used across four search fields: (1) (nitrogen OR nitrate OR ammonia OR (nitrous AND oxide)) AND (loss* OR leach* OR runoff OR seep* OR emission OR volatilization); (2) (water AND management) OR (water AND saving); (3) (paddy AND field) OR (lowland) OR (wetland) OR (inland valley) OR (valley*); and (4) (rice). Initially, 921 articles were identified. After screening titles, abstracts, and full texts, 38 articles containing 182 observations met the inclusion criteria. The screening criteria required studies conducted in rice fields that addressed the loss of at least one nitrogen component (NO3--N, NH4+-N, TN, NH3, or N2O). The studies also had to involve at least one water-saving technologies (WST) such as alternate wet and dry (AWD), controlled irrigation (CI), and shallow intermittent irrigation (SII), with Continuous Flooding (CF) irrigation as a comparison treatment.
