Appraisal of the Archeological Resources of Monticello Reservoir Area, Napa County, California

This report describes the archaeological survey that the River Basin Surveys, Smithsonian Institution made during October and November of 1947. Clarence E. Smith, Archaeologist, and a team of graduate students from the University of California carried out the field work. A total of 50 archaeological sites were found during the survey. Sites consist of habitation and activity areas. It is worth noting that two of the major sites were identified as villages occupied and recorded during the Historic period. The list of sites in the reservoir area is likely not complete, because a strip along the east side of the valley was not accessible at the time of field work due to heavy rains.
