Quality controlled, reliable groundwater level data with corresponding specific yield over India

This repository includes the<b> raw groundwater level </b>dataset obtained from <b>Central Ground Water Board (CGWB)</b>, comprising measurements from 32,299 wells across India (1_India_GWLs_2000_2024_wells_within_India.csv).<b> </b>After applying a series of quality control and preprocessing steps including removal of missing/negative values, outlier filtering using the three-sigma method, and consistency checks (e.g., minimum two readings per year and avoidance of repeated values), a refined subset of <b>2,759 reliable wells</b> was identified for the period 2000-2022 for robust long-term spatiotemporal analysis.In addition, the dataset includes specific yield estimates for each reliable well, derived using a Vectorization-based method and a hydrogeological map of India. The provided scripts enable users to reproduce the data processing steps and perform further analysis, including comparison with satellite-based (e.g., GRACE) or model-based groundwater storage estimates.<br>
