Modeling and simulation of hydrogen-based shaft furnaces

Developing hydrogen-based ironmaking reactors is one of the effective pathways to drive the low-carbon transformation of the steel industry. This thesis develops a numerical model to simulate an industrial-scale ironmaking reactor, elucidates the complex multiphysics phenomena inside the reactor, and proposes feasible solutions toward pure-hydrogen operation, with a particular focus on gas injection and heating strategies.
