A novel cardiac troponin-I missense variant is associated with familial hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in Golden Retrievers

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is rare and dogs and no risk variants have been described. HCM in a nuclear family of Golden Retrievers (GRs) was identified following the sudden cardiac death of three puppies less than two years old. We conducted WGS on the three affected puppies, along with nuclear family members and one distantly related, geriatric, cardiovascularly normal GR (n=14).
