Data used in the main figures of the publication 'Methylated precursor leads to carbon nitride (CNx) with improved interfacial interactions for enhanced photocatalytic performance' published in Sustainable Energy & Fuels, 2023. The dataset contains characterization and activity data for a series of carbon nitride materials prepared from copolymerization of melamine and methylated melamine at different ratios. The photocatalytic activity of the materials was evaluated by dye photodegradation. Pt was also added as the reduction cocatalyst to evaluate the photocatalytic performance of H2 generation from sacrificial TEOA. Structural (FTIR, XRD, XPS) and optical (absorption, emission, TAS) characterizations were obtained for the series of samples in order to explain the differences observed in photocatalytic activity. The data was generated to better understand the impact of methylated amino group in carbon nitride photocatalytic systems.
