Daytime surface urban heat island intensity across 6022 global cities in summer 2019

This dataset provides objectively quantified estimates of daytime surface urban heat island (SUHI) intensity for 6,022 cities worldwide. The SUHI intensity is derived using an objective, temperature–mutation–point–based method that identifies background rural areas from abrupt changes in land surface temperature trends with increasing distance from each urban area. The file includes each city’s name, country, continent, geographic coordinates, and the calculated SUHI intensity (ΔTs). These data were generated as part of the study “Nonlinear impacts of urban size and vegetation cover on global surface urban heat: Insights from 6022 cities.”
