Vegetation typology classification and data set in Ucayali, Peru

This data set is the result of a land cover mapping activity involving a collaborative partnership between researchers and local experts working in and around the Ucayali region of Peru. The objective of this activity was to co-develop a categorization system and geospatial data set for the vegetation in the region that leverages local knowledge while reconciling this knowledge with the strengths and limitations of remote sensing capabilities. The vegetation classes described here will form a technically meaningful basis for active remote sensing data libraries to be subsequently developed using satellite-based Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) data.
