How Powerful Are Quasar OutflowsquestionMark

Xray absorption studies of quasar outflows with lowresolution CCD spectroscopycannot reliably determine the outflow kinetic luminosity. We therefore proposean ambitious longlook observation to obtain the first highquality gratingspectroscopy of a miniBAL quasar (PG 1114+445). Grating spectroscopy of a smallsample of local Seyfert galaxies has led to highly regarded accuratedeterminations of their wind properties. The proposed extension of gratingspectroscopy to the first miniBAL quasar level AGN will determine if theoutflow becomes as powerful as required in current AGN feedback scenarios.
