Cronin et al. Origin from urban heat islands speeds feeding increase during reproductive development in the Eastern lubber grasshopper (<i>Romalea microptera</i>)

In this paper, we compare grasshoppers from urban heat islands and non-heat islands in the same city. We measured feeding and reproductive development under common conditions. Grasshoppers from heat islands ate more at key periods and tended to produce more clutches. This work is one of few to address the effects of heat islands by comparison to other populations in the same city, as opposed to comparison to rural populations. Raw data for feeding rate by age, body mass by age, number of oviposition events, age at first oviposition, and size of first clutch.
