Böhmermann - Erdoğan Humor Scandal Dataset: Newspaper Articles, MAXQDA Codes, Codebook, Appendix, Coding Guidelines

This dataset forms part of the DELIAH: Democratic Literacy and Humour project and was compiled by Oğuzhan Zobar at Ghent University, with annotation and coding contributions from Miri Beyens and Laura de Lijser. It contains research materials related to the Böhmermann–Erdoğan Humor Scandal (BEHS), including a codebook, coding guidelines, appendix, MAXQDA project file, and a compressed archive of the newspaper articles used in the analysis. The dataset supports research on critical discourse analysis, humor scandals, media framing, translation, and automated coding methods. The files document both the conceptual framework and the practical annotation process of the BEHS case study. BEHS_Codebook_v1.0.xlsx provides the coding categories and label definitions; BEHS_Appendix_v1.0.docx contains contextual, legal, and translation-related reference materials; BEHS_CodingGuidelines_v1.2.docx explains the coding rules and annotation procedure. In addition, BEHS.mex_MAXQDA.rar contains the MAXQDA project files IRR.mex, coder1.mex, coder2.mex, and the complete BEHS.mex file. The coder1 and coder2 files can be used for inter-rater reliability (IRR) measurement, comparative annotation analysis, and methodological research on improving coding schemes and codebook generation processes.
