Distributed Air Temperature Measurements around Fugleberget, Hornsund, Spitsbergen, Svalbard

This dataset contains near-surface air temperature measurements collected using a network of TinyTag temperature loggers installed around Fugleberget Mountain, near Hornsund, southern Spitsbergen, Svalbard. The sensors are distributed along an elevational transect extending from the coastal zone to the summit of Fugleberget, providing information on spatial and temporal variability in local air temperature conditions. The monitoring programme was initiated in 2022 and is intended to continue as a long-term observational record. Methods The dataset consists of observations from seven TinyTag temperature loggers. All sensors are housed in radiation shields to minimize the influence of direct solar radiation on temperature measurements. The instruments are installed at different elevations along the Fugleberget slope, from sea level to the mountain summit. Temperature measurements were originally recorded at 20-minute intervals. The sampling interval was later changed to 15 minutes. The exact measurement frequency for each period can be determined from the timestamp records contained in the data files. Data are downloaded and quality-checked at least once per year. Data Quality and Missing Values Missing observations are represented by the value -999. Data gaps may result from: Sensor loss or damage, Battery depletion, Temporary instrument malfunction, Data retrieval or maintenance activities. Users are advised to treat all occurrences of -999 as missing values (NA) during analysis.
