Dataset: Exotic pet trade on digital platforms in Türkiye

This dataset accompanies the article "Exotic pet trade on digital platforms in Türkiye" (Yanaloglu, Büyük, Çelik & Naderi, submitted to Journal for Nature Conservation). It contains 755 advertisements of 95 exotic and native animal taxa offered as pets on Telegram, Facebook and internet advertisement websites in Türkiye, aggregated at taxon level. For each taxon, the dataset gives the taxonomic group, common and scientific name, identification level, the number of advertisements per platform, and the conservation status under the IUCN Red List (Version 2026-1), the CITES Appendices (Species+) and the Bern Convention appendices. No personal information about sellers or buyers is included. The R scripts used to produce Figures 1–4 of the article are also provided; place them in the same folder as the Excel file and run them in R.
