Two close-ups of the head of an elephant seal bull on the beach, San Benito Islands, Baja California, Gulf of California, Mexico, 1937 July 14-15. "Capturing a seal elephant for the San Diego Zoo: Wary leviathan of the deep -- Here is a handsome specimen of the titanic sea elephant. Erect on his fore-flippers the monster stands nearly as high as a man. A full grown bull will average 18 feet in length."
