MANIPULATIVE STRATEGIES IN INTERVIEW DISCOURSE

This paper explores manipulative strategies employed in interview discourse from linguistic and pragmatic perspectives. Manipulation is examined at two conditional levels: question-level strategies (steering the interaction, restricting response options, embedding presuppositions and evaluative components) and response-level strategies (self-justification, shifting attention, reframing the topic, and exerting emotional influence). The study identifies the linguistic resources through which manipulation is realized, including discourse markers, modal expressions, intensifiers, evaluative lexis, and syntactic patterns. The findings suggest that manipulation in the interview genre functions as a key discursive mechanism for guiding the audience and enhancing communicative impact.
