The primary purpose of the survey was to obtain information on the qualifications and experience of full-time TAFE teachers in order to assist the TAFE Commission (now TAFE Council of the Tertiary Education Commission) in making an appraisal of teachers' training needs and the nature and extent of the resources required. The iformation gathered in the survey was intended to provide State TAFE authorities with more detailed information for use in formulating programs of initial and continuing teacher education. Main variables include type of teaching experience, other relevant employment experience, present position, salary, stream and field of teaching and distribution of duty hours, type of qualifications obtained and when, whether studying now and reasons for not studying now, whether any studies were discontinued and why, staff and development course attendance and reasons for not attending. Background variables include age, sex, education and other employment experience. Background variables include age, sex, income and other educational qualifications.
