资源简介:
This dataset supports the empirical analysis reported in "Agricultural Total Factor Productivity Growth in Southern Africa: Decomposition, Determinants, and Pathways to Enhanced Food Availability" (Mutale, B. submitted to Cogent Food & Agriculture). It contains a balanced panel of 260 country-year observations covering 10 Southern African Development Community (SADC) member states — Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe — over the period 2000–2025.The dataset was constructed from publicly available sources including FAOSTAT (2023), the World Bank World Development Indicators (2023), the World Bank Climate Change Knowledge Portal (2023), and the FAO State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World annual reports. Observed data cover 2000–2020; values for 2021–2025 are projections obtained through OLS trend extrapolation from the 2016–2020 base period and are clearly flagged in the dataset. The dataset contains seven worksheets: (1) a README codebook providing variable names, codes, units, sources, and definitions for all 25 variables; (2) the full panel dataset including TFP index values, TFP growth rates, technical efficiency change (TEC), technological change (TC), technical efficiency scores, nine panel regression determinants (government agricultural investment, agriculture value-added share, trade openness, water use efficiency, temperature anomaly, precipitation, pesticide use, GDP per capita PPP, and agricultural GHG emissions), and two food security indicators (undernourishment prevalence and dietary energy supply); (3) annual TFP decomposition by country; (4) growth accounting results decomposing agricultural output growth into six input contributions and the TFP residual; (5) food security indicators; (6) panel regression replication results (Pooled OLS, Fixed Effects, Random Effects, and 2SLS); and (7) the exact data values underlying all six figures in the submitted paper. The Tornqvist TFP index was constructed using fixed cost shares: land (0.22), labor (0.30), machinery (0.12), livestock (0.18), fertilizer (0.10), and feed (0.08). The regional best-practice frontier was defined as the maximum TFP value across the 10 countries in each year, enabling decomposition into technical efficiency change and technological change components.
