Svalbard glacier calving fronts (1936-1978)

Svalbard glacier calving fronts (1936-1978) dataset presented in an unpublished master's thesis. This dataset contains KH-5 ARGON and Landsat MSS images, glacier calving fronts retreived from 1936-1938 aerial photographs, KH-5 ARGON and Landsat MSS images, and centerlines and boxes used to calculate glacier retreat/advance. The KH-5 ARGON images gather the georeferenced TIF files and the GCPs (POINTS files) used to georeference them. The CRS is EPSG:25833 - ETRS89 / UTM zone 35N. The Landsat MSS images gather the georeferenced false color images (TIF files) formed with bands 7, 5 and 4 and the GCPs (POINTS files) used to georeference them. The CRS is EPSG:32633 - WGS 84 / UTM zone 33N. All the retreived fronts are split into three separate datasets (one for each data source, in shapefile format). They include images’ names, dates, missions, Randolph Glacier Inventory (RGI) indexes version 6 and 7, flow directions, and a front index specific to this study. Landsat and KH-5 ARGON fronts have CRS EPSG:4326 - WGS84, and 1938-1936 aerial photographs fronts have CRS EPSG:32633 - WGS 84 / UTM zone 33N. The boxes and centerlines datasets used for the data analysis are also provided (shapefile format). They include RGI indexes version 6 and 7, flow direction and front index. These features have CRS EPSG:25833 - ETRS89 / UTM zone 33N. It is recommended to reproject all these datasets to CRS EPSG:25833 - ETRS89 / UTM zone 33N when processing this data.
