The direct economic losses can be found in Section Five, “Assessment of Direct Economic Losses”, of the “The disaster loss assessment report of Shimian County earthquake-stricken areas in the 9.5 Luding Ms 6.8 earthquake”.

This study puts forward an evaluation model for the earthquake-caused indirect economic losses with the comprehensive disaster index and applies it to the Luding earthquake. In this study, the indirect economic losses attributable to the Luding earthquake in Shimian County, especially in different industries, are evaluated by the updated model and verified by the outcome from the empirical statistic model. The results indicate that the secondary industry occupies the most sig-nificant indirect economic losses, requiring special attention. Meanwhile, the study verified the ra-tionality of the calculation methods used and demonstrated operability and accuracy in the ap-plication of 21 earthquakes with magnitudes above 6.0 that caused casualties in China from 2008 to 2022. Overall, the indirect economic loss evaluation model proposed in this study can clearly and comprehensively reflect the economic loss in the disaster areas and provide essential data and in-formation support for post-disaster recovery and reconstruction.
