Mayors Challenge: Biobot Pilot (2018)

In 2017, Cary saw a 40% increase in fatal overdoses and a 135% increase in non-fatal overdoses. To address this, The Town undertook an innovative approach, partnering with Biobot Analytics, to help gather opioid consumption data by helping install and operate wastewater sampling devices in 10 sample sites within Cary’s wastewater collection system. This were monitored monthly by measuring concentrations of opioid metabolites in sewage. The data solution generated an aggregate of wastewater collected over a 24-hour period of 4,000 to 15,000 individuals to ensure individual homes or residents are not identifiable, safeguarding Personally Identifiable Information (PII) concerns. This dataset shows the average MME per category (Morphine Milligram Equivalents per day per 1000 people) in each site, over the entire sampling period.Note: Attached is data dictionary for all the specific terms used in the data set.
