We sampled three distinct spider mite strains for preparation of a transcriptome database which can be used for design of a microarray, and other means of expression analysis, to study mite responses to different plant diets i.e. plants with different constitutive and/or induced defenses. Strain Tetranychus urticae Houten1 was selected for the fact that it iis resistant to the defenses of tomato plants and this is described in: Kant, MR., et al. (2008).
