RNA sequencing to assess effect of increased hepatic Nrf1 activity on liver gene expression in endotoxemia

Increasing hepatic activity of the transcription factor named nuclear factor erythroid 2 related factor 1 (Nrf1) was found to improve survival of mice during endotoxemia. To investigate the mechanmism, RNA sequencing was done on liver with or without over-expression of hepatic Nrf1 following the onset of endotoxemia using lipopolysaccharide. Result shows that increasing hepatic Nrf1 altered the expression of several hundred genes. Gene ontology indicates the changes in the transcription profile were protective against LPS-induced hepatocyte stress and damage.
