Developers' Perceptions of Mature and Immature Generative AI Use in Software Development: Participant Profiles and Thematic Analysis Dataset

This dataset accompanies a qualitative study investigating software developers' perceptions of mature and immature use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in software development. The study involved semi-structured interviews with 32 software developers, exploring how they characterize mature and immature AI use, the practices and behaviors associated with these perceptions, and the potential consequences of immature use. The dataset consists of two CSV files: Participant Profiles: Contains anonymized demographic and professional information about the 32 participants, including their experience level, educational background, and professional experience. Thematic Analysis Dataset: Contains the results of the qualitative coding process, including codes, subthemes, themes, overarching themes, and supporting quotations extracted from the interviews. The quotations have been translated from Portuguese into English. The dataset provides empirical evidence of developers' perceptions and experiences regarding GenAI use in software development. It may support further qualitative investigations, comparative studies, and research on responsible and mature AI-assisted software development. Participant identifiers are anonymized to protect individual identities.
