VPRS 12400 'Notice to Treat' Plans

This series consists of Notice to Treat Plans prepared by the Railways Department to facilitate the taking of land required for public works. The procedure for acquisition of land was set out in Part VII of the 1865 Public Works Statute. Section 276 provided that notice of the intention to take lands for public works had to be served upon all parties with an interest in the land. Such notice had to state the particulars of the land required for public works and that the authority requiring the land was willing to treat for the purchase of the land, and compensate any parties who might sustain damage by reason of the execution of the public works.It would seem that the Railways Department prepared detailed Plans to accompany the notices to treat served upon parties with an interest in land to be acquired for the construction of new railway lines. These plans showed a map of the planned railway line, and indicated the owners of the portions of land required for public works. The boundaries of that persons land was indicated, with their name and their tenure, eg Mrs Smith, Freehold. The area of land required by the Railways Department is coloured on the Plans: blue for land required temporarily, and red for land to be permanently taken.Each Plan was given a Reference Number. Many of the Plans have been stamped: This is the Plan referred to in the Notice to Treat, Reference No xx.

铁路部门所需征收的土地区域会在图纸上进行着色标注：蓝色代表临时征收土地，红色代表永久征收土地。每份附图均配有参考编号。多数图纸均加盖有如下印章：本附图系土地征收意向通知书所附图纸，参考编号为XX。
