Cutworms (Lepidoptera: Agrotis sp.) are important agricultural pest. Cutworm has a very diverse feeding type and is a typical generalist insect, feeding on nearly all vegetables and many important grains. Compare to other insects from different orders, e.g. wood-feeding termite, grass-consuming grasshopper, it would be interesting to see their potential mechanism of food selection, generalist and specialist, even their biotechnology application. Thus, a metagenome illumine library was constructed using the DNA of cutworm gut microbiota and sequenced using Illumina GAII. The sequencing generated a total of 251208 predicted gene models.
