Corynebacterium diphtheriae species complex infection in a sloth

We identified the very first case of bronchopneumonia in a Linnaeus's two-toed sloth (Choloepus didactylus) caused by Corynebacterium diphtheriae species complex, whose identity is to be revealed via whole-genome sequencing on Nanopore R10 and Illumina NextSeq 2000 platforms. Preliminary analysis suggested its affiliation to Corynebacterium ramonii, a newly named bacterium that has so far been reported mostly from humans, with few cases in animals.
