Moriwaki: Imitation of the lustrous petals of hardy ice plant

The petals of hardy ice plant (<i>Delosperma cooperi</i>) have a metallic luster. Numerous micrometer-order ridges were observed on both sides of the petals. Light shining on the petals has directions of reflection and scattering that are controlled by these ridges, which cause a luster of the petals. The "mimicked resin plate" created by using the petal of hardy ice plant as a template possessed similar luster as the petals. This plate shows promise for applications as a reflective material. <br>
