Multi-Stakeholder Challenges and Opportunities of News Recommender Systems in Newsrooms: A Comparative Systematic Literature Review

The systematic search was conducted on the 24th of May 2024, using two major academic databases: Web of Science and Scopus. The search results were limited to English-language, peer-reviewed publications without any restrictions on the publication date.

The search strings were developed through an iterative process in which early searches informed the refinement of the final strategy. The final search strings were designed to capture publications discussing “news personalisation” or “news recommender systems”, which were treated as synonymous. Considering that our research question focused specifically on news media organisations, the inclusion of terms such as ‘media’, ‘media organisation’ and ‘newsroom’ ensured that the studies we found were linked to the journalism field.
