BACKGROUND Historically, Western arts are rooted in geometry and mathematics (Aristotle, Pythagoras). Music structure, scale and timing are guided by the Fibonacci numbers as Phi is often used to design musical instruments and the golden ratio is predominantly used at the genesis of the creation of visual works. Indeed, creative practices are governed by rules of Mathematical harmony, being a resultant of formal beauties shining with sacred meanings. Numbers, figures and geometry are the cornerstone of culture, belief and design. What if the Fibonacci Series becomes a conceptual mechanism for curating and designing the sub-culture of extreme metal music? CONTRIBUTION Echoing Scars is an installation of six artworks created and displayed under the influence of the Fibonacci Series. Thus aligned with rigorous golden ratio use and geometrical rules (pentagram, triangle) building the relationship between formal construction (artworks, placements) and conceptual deconstruction (content and meanings). The exhibition examines the dichotomy between the universal and the individual, between rules of nature and man's free will using the aesthetic of metal music as visuals and language, colliding the past with the present. Echoing Scars investigates and enables the agency of the visitor to unfold the resonance of meanings. The set up refers to a concert room-like with a ghostly presence of the band, fans, lyrics and slogan within a stage lighting atmosphere. The exhibition's soundtrack is activated by the visitor's interaction. This latter becomes the last missing band member and the show must go on. SIGNIFICANCE This exhibition is in response to an invitation for a solo show at Galerie Quynh, leading art gallery in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam from May 12 to June 2, 2017. Initially promoting Vietnam's pioneering artists, the gallery has since embraced a wider international program allowing access to a diverse range of practices, hosting approximately 10 exhibitions per year.
