Don King Pakistan Diary #3

Don King worked as a geologist with the South Australian Mines Department. In 1951 he travelled with two other Australian geologists (expedition leader, John Ivanac & Doug Traves both from the Bureau of Mineral Resources) to the Hunza region of Pakistan to provide technical assistance and undertake a geophysical survey of the region under the Colombo Plan.
Don's three personal diaries have been recently donated by his family and form a valuable addition to John Ivanac's 3 field notebooks and personal diary from this trip which are already part of our library collection. John's son used the notebooks and photographs from our collection to help write the story of this historic expedition Skirting the Precipice. These diaries have come to light since the publication of the book and cover a period of time which was missing in John's documents. These diaries will be used by John's son to continue on with researching and writing the story of the first Australian geological survey of the Hunza Region of Northern Pakistan.

唐·金（Don King）曾任职于南澳大利亚矿产部，职业为地质学家。1951年，他与另外两位澳大利亚地质学家——科考队领队约翰·伊万纳克（John Ivanac）及来自矿产资源局的道格·特拉维斯（Doug Traves）——根据科伦坡计划（Colombo Plan），赴巴基斯坦罕萨（Hunza）地区提供技术援助，并开展该区域的地球物理勘测工作。
唐·金的三本私人日记近日由其家属捐赠，这将成为约翰·伊万纳克本次科考的3本野外笔记与私人日记的重要补充——后者早已入藏本馆馆藏。约翰·伊万纳克的儿子曾借助本馆馆藏中的笔记与照片，完成了纪实作品《悬崖边的跋涉》（Skirting the Precipice），讲述了这支历史性科考队的故事。这批日记是在该书出版后被发现的，填补了约翰·伊万纳克文献资料中的一段空白。约翰·伊万纳克的儿子将借助这批日记，继续开展研究并撰写关于澳大利亚首次对巴基斯坦北部罕萨地区开展地质勘测的相关内容。
