The data provided here are post-processed from the raw Community Earth System Model output.
Here, we provide composites of different oceanographic and atmospheric variables for Southern Ocean storms 1997-2018. We provide average composites of storm-induced anomalies and absolute fields for each storm on the day of the storm passing and two and four days after the storm passing (selected variables only) based on output from the Community Earth System Model version 2.2 (CESM). In addition, we provide the total derivations from the climatology for the storm-impacted area.
The following variables are provided: total Chlorophyll (totChl, totChl_hr, totChl_emulator), mixed layer depth (MLD, MLD_hr), total vertically integrated net primary production (photoC_zint), total surface net primary production (photoC_total_surf), total integrated phytoplankton carbon biomass in the top 100m (phytoC_zint_100m), surface diatom growth rate (mu_diat), surface small phytoplankton growth rate (mu_sp), surface diatom dissolved iron growth limitation (diat_Fe_lim), surface diatom light growth limitation (diat_light_lim), surface small phytoplankton dissolved iron growth limitation (sp_Fe_lim), surface small phytoplankton light growth limitation (sp_light_lim), sea level pressure (slp), wind speed (wind_speed), sea surface temperature (SST). "hr" refers to the high-resolution simulation of CESM, and "emulator" refers tot he satellite emulator in CESM.
