资源简介:
This series comprises minutes and papers of the sub-committees comprising Senior Medical Staff (SMS) of the Royal Melbourne Hospital (VA 1048). The SMS were appointed to the sub-committees for a specific time to investigate particular topics. This series includes minutes and papers for the Ninth Floor Sub-Committee, the Operating Suite Sub-Committee, the Hospital Infections Sub-Committee, the Medical Records Sub-Committee, the Staff Establishment Sub-Committee, the Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Establishment Sub-Committee, the Clinical Policy Advisory Committee, a Committee dealing with genetic mutations that lead to disease, and a Committee dealing with cancer services. Ninth Floor Sub-Committee The Ninth Floor Sub-Committee was involved in the operation, functioning, staffing and running of the theatres and associated equipment. At this time the operating theatres were located in the Main Block on the Ninth Floor. After eventual expansion of the hospital it continued as the Operating Suite Sub-Committee. Hospital Infections Sub-Committee The Hospital Infections Sub-Committee's role was to evaluate and revise procedures and policies as they relate to the prevention and control of hospital or otherwise acquired infections; make recommendation for the formation of appropriate policies and procedures, and educational programs as indicated by epidemiological trends; identify infection control problems and make recommendations as to their management; ensure building design or equipment was compatible with accepted infection control practice; and advise on methods of preventing acquisition of infections in patients, visitors and staff. Later files also detail infection source, treatments, controls and mitigation strategies, statistics, protocols for avoiding exposure and accidents, and management of patients with infections. Medical Records Sub-Committee The Medical Records Sub-Committee's role was to formulate policies regarding the quality, form, content and method of recording data in the medical record of patients. Staff Establishment Sub-Committee The Staff Establishment Sub-Committee's role was to consider the specialist medical staff positions that were required, including total numbers, those required for individual units and departments, and length of terms for postings. Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Establishment Sub-Committee The Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Establishment Sub-Committee met to consider the junior resident medical officer staff positions that were required, including total numbers, those required for individual units and departments, and length of terms for postings. Clinical Policy Advisory Committee The Clinical Policy Advisory Committee's role was to consider and make recommendations on any policy matters relating to the clinical services and professional care of patients, and to consider strategic issues, identify and recommend the feasibility of changes in existing services, and propose new services. Additional sub-committees A Sub-Committee was also convened to deal with genetic mutations that lead to disease processes such as in cancer genetics and metabolic medicine. Responsibilities included screening  and identification of patients, management of patients, services for patients including new clinics, clinical guidelines for treatment, testing including development and introduction of new tests, and funding issues around screening testing. A Sub-Committee was also convened to deal with cancer services including reviews of services such as the need for new Special Clinics or modification of existing Clinics; testing including the introduction of new diagnostic aids; staffing for cancer services; funding including the allotment of priorities to allocation of resources; clinical trials; and patient treatment including new modes or therapeutic methods of treatment. A record of the SMS related Sub-Committees Terms of Reference is also included in the series. Prior to transfer to Public Record Office Victoria, the records in this series were maintained as part of the Royal Melbourne Hospital Archives.
