Four Desulfovibrio spp. that exhibit a piezophilic lifestyle have been isolated from deep ocean ecosystems. Here, we report the genome sequence of the piezophilic Desulfovibrio profundus strain 500-1, isolated from a deep marine sediment layer at 500 m depth under a water column of 1,000 m depth, in the Japan Sea. The genome includes a 4,168,905-bp circular chromosome and two plasmids of 42,836-bp and 6,167-bp. It is the first genomic sequence of a piezophilic sulfate-reducing bacterium isolated from a deep marine sediment layer. Analysis of this sequence will be helpful in elucidating adaptation of sulfate-reducing bacteria to deep-sea habitats.
