Khâwarnâma. This manuscript is now IO Islamic 896 in the India Office collections. [metadata: Hermann Ethé, Catalogue of Persian Manuscripts in the Library of the India Office, 2 vols. (Oxford: India Office, 1903): volume 1, number 2557 here with notations and hyperlinks]. 896 Khâwarnâma (خاورنامه). The exploits of ‘Alî and his companions, a mathnawî composed in imitation of the Shâhnâma by Muḥammad bin Ḥusâm-aldin of Khûsaf in Ḳuhistân, usually called Ibn Ḥusâm, with the epithet of فردوسئ ثانى ‘the second Firdausî,’ A.H. 830 (A.D. 1427), see fol. 183a, l. 8. It is generally styled خاورنامه, but the poet himself calls it here (fol. 183a, l. 9) خاوراننامه. According to the colophon it is also sometimes designated by the simple title شاهنامه ; compare Bodleian Cat., No. 512; Rieu ii. p. 642; A. Sprenger, Catal., p. 432; G. Flϋgel ii. p. 450, and Haft Iḳlîm, No. 826 (col. 437 in this Cat.). The poet died A.H. 875 (A.D. 1470) according to Taḳî Kâshî (other, less correct, dates are A.H. 892, see Ḥ. Khalfa iii. p. 129, and 893, see Ḥabib-alsiyar, vol. iii. Juz 3, p. 336). The introduction, found in the Bodleian copy, is missing in all the copies of this collection. Beginning of the poem: نخستين برين نامۀ دلگشاى سخن نقش بستم بنام خداى Dated A.H. 965, month of Jumâdâ-alawwal (A.D. 1558, February-March), by Maḥmûd bin ‘Abd-alraḥmân. Worm-eaten in many places. Bibliotheca Leydeniana. A translation of this epopee in Dakhnî verses was made by a poet with the takhalluṣ Rustamî, who excelled both in Persian and Dakhnî poetry, for Khadîjah Sulṭân Shahrbânû, the sister of Sulṭân ‘Abdallâh Ḳuṭbshâh (who ascended the throne of Gulkundah A.H. 1035=A.D. 1626, see No. 464 in this Cat.), the wife of Abû Manṣûr Sulṭân Muḥammad ‘Âdilshâh bin Ibrâhîmshâh (who reigned A.H. 1037-1067, A.D. 1627-1656, see Nos. 454 and 455 in this Cat.), and the mother of Manṣûr Bakhtiyâr (a copy of this translation with gorgeous illustrations is preserved in No. 834 of the India Office Collection). No. 2557, ff. 184, 4 centre-coll., each ll. 20 (except ff. 1 and 2, with ll. 25 in a page), and from fol. 3a on a fifth column on the margin, ll. 44; Nasta’lîḳ, by three different hands; size, 103/4 in. by 67/8 in.

896号藏品《霍瓦尔纳玛（خاورنامه）》记述了阿里及其同伴的事迹，是一部模仿《列王纪（Shâhnâma）》创作的玛斯纳维体（mathnawî）长诗，作者为库希斯坦胡萨夫城的穆罕默德·本·侯赛姆丁，通常被称为伊本·侯赛姆，享有"第二菲尔多西"的美誉，成书于伊斯兰历830年（公元1427年），详见第183a叶第8行。

据塔基·卡希（Taḳî Kâshî）记载，该诗人逝世于伊斯兰历875年（公元1470年）；另有不准确的说法称其逝世于伊斯兰历892年（见哈立德法《Ḥ. Khalfa》第三卷第129页）及893年（见《学者之友（Ḥabib-alsiyar）》第三卷第三分册第336页）。

博德利图书馆藏本带有序言，但本次馆藏的所有抄本均缺失该序言。诗歌开篇波斯语原文为：نخستين برين نامۀ دلگشاى سخن نقش بستم بنام خداى。该手稿由马哈茂德·本·阿卜杜勒·拉赫曼（Maḥmûd bin ‘Abd-alraḥmân）于伊斯兰历965年祖勒盖达月（公元1558年2-3月）题写题记。手稿多处存在虫蛀痕迹。

莱顿馆藏目录记载了该藏品。有一位以"鲁斯塔米"为笔名（takhalluṣ）的诗人，精通波斯语与达克赫尼语（Dakhnî）诗歌，为卡迪贾·苏丹·沙尔巴努（Khadîjah Sulṭân Shahrbânû）创作了一部以达克赫尼语诗句翻译的该史诗译本。卡迪贾·苏丹·沙尔巴努是苏丹阿卜杜拉·库特布沙阿的姐妹（阿卜杜拉·库特布沙阿于伊斯兰历1035年即公元1626年即位古尔康达王位，详见本目录第464号），同时也是阿布·曼苏尔·苏丹·穆罕默德·阿迪勒沙阿·本·易卜拉欣沙阿的妻子（其统治时期为伊斯兰历1037-1067年，即公元1627-1656年，详见本目录第454、455号），亦是曼苏尔·巴赫蒂亚尔的母亲；该译本配有精美插图的抄本现藏于印度办公室馆藏第834号。

本条目对应第2557号，抄本共184叶，每叶中央设三栏，每栏20行（第1、2叶除外，每页25行）；自第3a叶起，页边增设第五栏，共计44行；书写字体为纳斯塔利克体（Nasta’lîḳ），由三位书手誊写；手稿尺寸为10又3/4英寸 × 6又7/8英寸。
