Deletion of YAP in vascular smooth muscle cells alleviates atherosclerosis

we demonstrated that a previously unknown function VSMC YAP in the AS in ApoE knockout or the background of LDLR deficiency induced by an AAV8 overexpressing a murine AAV8 mPCSK9. VSMC specific YAP knockout significantly alleviate atherosclerotic phenotype in the above two background AS models. Mechanistically, YAP targeted ANGPT2 and then regulating phenotypic transformation to promote AS progression. Taken, Our work offers a possible mechanistic basis for the beneficial effect of AS.
