资源简介:
Pollen and macrofloral sampling was undertaken in conjunction with
archaeological mitigation during the Interstate 70 Ghost Rock Data Recovery
Project in Emery County. A total of 41 pollen and 37 macrofloral samples
were collected and analyzed from seven archaeological sites. The sites
represent Archaic and Fremont occupation of the area. The sampling strategy
employed at these sites emphasized subsistence reconstruction. The majority
of the pollen and macrofloral samples were taken from midden deposits or
features. In addition, four human coprolites were recovered and analyzed
for pollen and macrofloral remains, as well as evidence of parasites. Evidence
concerning the exploitation of native and possibly cultivated vegetal
resources was sought in the pollen and macrofloral records. Seasonality of
the various site components was also examined to provide additional information
concerning subsistence and settlement patterns. In addition, evidence
of the differences in the utilization of plants between the Archaic and
Fremont occupations was sought.
