Attitude to European unification, the European Parliament and further development of the Union. Topics: General contentment with life; postmaterialism; expected development of personal situation, one´s own financial situation and the job situation in the coming year; expected general economic development of the country; frequency of obtaining news from television, radio and daily newspapers; national pride and reasons for national pride (split: exchange of the sequence of general determination and naming of reasons); attitude to pride in the nation; self-classification of political orientation. Europe: general interest in politics and special interest in European politics; satisfaction with democracy at municipal, national and European level; European citizenship; self-classification of general extent to which informed about the European Union; approval of European unification; attitude to membership of the country in the EU and advantageousness of membership for one´s own country; regret of a failure of the EU; judgement on the speed of unification of the EU and desired progress of this unification; desired national or European responsibility for political departments and for selected political measures; desire for increased information about the European Union; perceived information about the European Parliament, the European Commission, the Council of Ministers, the European Court of Justice, the Common Market and the Maastricht Treaty (split: in the last three months versus recently); personal hopes in the Common Market; hopes in the Common Market regarding the job market, trade, competition, the economic situation and social policies; reasons and type of concerns regarding the Common Market; approval of future membership in the EU for Austria, Finland, Sweden, Norway, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, the Slovak Republic, Bulgaria, Romania and Slovenia; familiarity of those countries who conducted a referendum regarding joining the EU; familiarity of the positive or negative result of these referendums. Demography: possession of durable consumer goods; self-classification on a left-right continuum; party preference; age at conclusion of school training; religiousness. In Denmark, Germany, Italy, Spain, France, Ireland, Portugal and in the United Kingdom the image of Italy was additionally surveyed: intensity of observing Italian politics; judgement on the political as well as the economic situation of Italy on scales. The following questions were posed in France: degree of familiarity of brands of soft drinks; consumption at home and away from home, brands consumed and frequency of consumption of soft drinks; conduct when the preferred brand of soft drink is not available in the selection of the restaurant as well as store; assessment of the difference of soft drink beverages from other refreshments; most important reason for consumption of soft drinks; assessment of the different taste of the individual brands of soft drinks. The following questions were posed in Norway: general judgement on the EES treaty; personal agreement or rejection in the EU referendum; conduct given a new referendum; significance of Norway´s joining the EU for the areas of environment, jobs, health, security policy, drug policy, structure policy, economy, culture and regarding political influence; expected future EU membership of the country. Also encoded was: time of interview; length of interview; number of persons present during the interview; willingness of respondent to cooperate; city size; possession of a telephone.
